A dead pixel is a small area that is no longer able to emit light or change color. It is typically a black dot that may occur on phones, laptops, monitors or TV. The cause of dead pixels is a failure of the hardware within the display panel and they do not spread like cracks. If the number of affected pixels continues to increase over time, however, it could signify that the display is damaged or that it is a manufacturing defect. An on-screen diagnostic test will assist in determining if the problem is a real dead pixel or temporary caused by the display.
