I'm sharing this because I wish someone had told me this months ago when Recovery Partners first started calling me about an old debt.

At first, it was just the usual collector calls. But then it got worse. They started calling me at 7:30 in the morning, again during lunch, and sometimes as late as 9 at night. I counted 12 calls in one day. When I answered, the caller was short and pushy, demanding payment immediately and hinting that they could "take further steps" if I didn't cooperate.

The worst part? They called my neighbor. My neighbor actually came over to tell me some debt collector was asking about me. I was mortified.

I honestly didn't know what to do until a friend told me to look into the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). That's when I learned that most of what they were doing—excessive calls, calling outside allowed hours, contacting my neighbor, and those vague threats—was actually illegal.

Here's what I did that finally worked:

I stopped answering. Let them leave voicemails—those become evidence.

I started documenting everything. Dates, times, caller names, exactly what was said.

I sent a certified mail cease and desist letter demanding they stop contacting me.

I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
